Review:Multipower Powerlayer Protein Bar

Friday, August 2nd, 2013

When it comes to protein bars I have traditionally steered well clear. I remember back to the first time I tried a protein bar in a gym (I am not going to mention how long ago that was). I must say it was not the best experience of my life, the bar had a very chemically taste and had what can only be described as a horrible texture.  This experience put me off protein bars for a good while… until now!

I am so glad to say that there has been a big improvement in protein bars over the years since my last one. Recently my friends at Multipower sent me a few of their new Powerlayer bars to have a go of, in the hope that the more modern bars would change my mind.  I found that they did, I tried the chocolate caramel bars and rather than using them post workout, I used them as a high protein snack.  They even made a good dessert for those days when I craved something sweet after a meal.

The bars themselves come in a 60g bar that packs a huge 33% protein content.  The bar is a great one for all those cocoholics out there with four layers of nuts, caramel, crispies and chocolate.  The bars are also free of all artificial colors and flavourings, which is always a good thing!  I really enjoyed both the taste and texture of the Powerlayer bars, and I will be buying more in the future.

If any of you guys give them a try let me know how you find them!

Review: Multipower BCAA Caps

Friday, April 26th, 2013

Hi All

I was recently sent a load of stuff from Multipower Sportsfoods, one of the things they sent over is a bottle of Branched Chain Amino Acid (BCAA) Capsules.  I have not used BCAAs for a while and decided to add them into my supplement routine over the next few weeks and see what happened.  I followed the suggested dosage of 3 pre workout and 3 post workout, this gave me a good boost of those much-needed amino acids!  The capsules themselves contain essential amino acids L-Leucine, L-Valine, and L-Isoleucine to support the preservation of muscle mass and additionally L-Alanine and potassium hydrogen carbonate that helps to support those intensive workout sessions. On top of all this the BCAAs are very clean and contain no nasties, making them a good choice for all those who are more health conscious with their supplement choices.

The science behind taking BCAA is that during exercise protein may be used as a fuel source, so when taking the supplement it means there should be a surplus of amino acids within the body.  This means that the body is less likely to eat into muscle tissue in order to create energy.  There have been a number of studies that support the use of BCAA in order to reduce muscle breakdown and promote faster recovery.

I found the Multipower capsules to be an awesome addition to my stack, allowing me to get some good gains and also helped me to preserve muscle mass, even through periods of more intense cardiovascular work.  I am going to add this product to my regular intake, another bottle that makes it to be a resident in my gym bag!

I would definitely recommend the Multipower BCAAs and at less than £20 for 102 capsules they will not break the bank!  In fact having used a number of the Multipower products I can highly recommend the brand.
