Review: Activate Nutrition Tribulus Terristris

Friday, November 1st, 2013

I have been giving the Tribulus Terrestris a try over the last few weeks, as you get a little older you start to need a bit more of a boost in the testosterone department to help you develop and maintain lean muscle tissue.  This supplement that comes from the Tribulus plant, which is native to Bulgaria, is considered a natural testosterone booster.  The active ingredient in this product is a substance called steroidal saponins.  In average testosterone boosters you get a rate of about 45% steroidal saponins, in this very potent version from Activate has a rate of 95% giving you a real big bang for your buck.

Historically this plant was know as Ayurvedic herb or more commonly as the Puncture Vine.  For centuries it has been used to boost physical performance, with the side effect of a boosted sex drive (not sure if that is good or bad)!  This extract then helps to boost the levels of testosterone in the body.

The tub has 120 capsules that is enough for 30 days taking a couple in the morning followed by a couple at lunch giving you a 1400mg dose.  While I was using Activate Nutrition Tribulus Terrestris I found that this dose gave me a massive energy surge, and it helped to boost my performance and lean muscle tissue.

Review: Activate Diet Plus Protein

Friday, October 18th, 2013

It has been a few week since my last supplement review, so I thought I would put one up of an amazing product I have been using from Activate Nutrition Diet Protein Plus.  The guys over at Activate Nutrition sent me a 2lb tub to try, and they know what I like and sent me Strawberry flavour.  Over the last couple of weeks I have been giving it a shot!

The formula is aimed at those that want to keep building lean muscle mass but also has elements that help to mobilise and reduce body fat percentage.  The shake has an amazing 79g of protein per 100g which is a whopping amount, this gives you just over 30g of protein isolate per serving.  This is achieved with only 148 calories per shake.

The active weight loss ingredients are CLA, Acai Berry, Green Tea, L-Carnitine and Taurine, so what do all these bits do?

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is a natural fatty acid it works by helping to prevent fat from being deposited into the adipose tissue (fat cells) and by speeding up the body’s metabolism, making you burn calories at a higher rate. There is also some research that shows it helps to mobilise fats, helping you to burn body fat faster!

Green Tea is packed full of powerful antioxidants, a key one is Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) that is really good for fat loss. This antioxidant helps to boost your body’s metabolism via stimulating the central nervous system and which can give that weight loss effort a bit of a boost

L-Carnitine’s is a natural fatty acid that increases the rate at which your body uses fat for energy by increasing the total amount of fat your body uses as fuel.   Taurine helps to improve metabolic function on a cellular level, resulting in an bigger fat burn. Taurine has also been shown to help you prevent lean tissue loss during weight loss phase. It also increases your body’s sensitivity to insulin and increases protein synthesis, these two factor help to promote the growth of lean tissue.

Acai Berry is one of the most effective, natural weight loss supplements on the market. The Acai Berry works by helping to eliminate toxins from your body, and harmful them out of your body.

The Diet Protein Plus was a great product, as usual with the Activate Nutrition range it mixed well and tasted great.  I found that the added weight loss extras did give me a metabolic boost and help me shed a bit of weight.  This is definitely one for all those of you who are looking at maintaining muscle mass while stripping body fat.

Review: Activate Nutrition ZMA (Zinc-Magnesium Aspartate)

Friday, July 19th, 2013

Over the last few weeks I have been using Activate Nutrition‘s ZMA (Zinc-Magnesium Aspartate) supplement  after being sent it last month to review.  Before I start to look at the product itself I thought I would re-cap on the reasons that ZMA is used as an anabolic and recovery supplement.

ZMA or Zinc-Magnesium Aspartate to give it, it’s full name is a combination of  zinc, vitamin B6, magnesium, and aspartate.  The ZMA formula itself is claimed to boost testosterone levels within the body, which will have an anabolic effect.  ZMA is also commonly associated with a boost post exercise recovery, strength and muscular mass.

Additionally to the above there is a strong link to the use of zinc to improve cell growth, cell production and testosterone production.  Magnesium has the effect of reducing the levels of cortisol a catabolic hormone (muscle breakdown).

Zinc-Magnesium Aspartate is a supplement commonly promoted as an aid to recovery with an anabolic (muscle building effect).

The Activate Nutrition  ZMA tablets came in standard, well put together packaging in 120 capsule jars.  This is approximately 60-90 days supplies depending on the quantity taken.  I took 2 capsules about 30 minutes before bed, each night for a month.  The capsules themselves were easy to swallow and had no side effects.

I found taking Zinc-Magnesium Aspartate had an anabolic effect, and greatly helped me recover especially after those heavy lifting days.  I also found that the supplement helped improve the quality of my sleep, I wake up in the morning feeling more refreshed, and woke up well before my alarm went off on most days.  Improved sleep quality is a much disputed effect of ZMA but I found it very useful in improving the depth and overall quality of my sleep.

At less than £10 for a months supply of ZMA and the high quality of the product supplied by Activate Nutrition I would highly recommend this product.

Please feel free to leave your feedback, questions please leave it in the comments box.

Review: Activate Nutrition’s Lean Muscle Gainer

Friday, July 5th, 2013

Activate Nutrition sent me a 2.25kg tub of their Lean Muscle Gainer to try, so over the las few weeks I have been using it.  They even sent me my personal favourite flavour… Vanilla!  I used the shake over the last few weeks after my workouts.

The idea behind the lean muscle gainer is to give you all the building blocks to build lean muscle tissue, this protein shake is made up of pure whey protein concentrate, whole milk protein and Micellar casein.  The combination of these three different types of protein gives a time released effect, this allows you to keep your body supplied with a quality source of protein in both the short and longer term.  This constant supply of branched chain amino acids are a vital part of maximal growth and repair.

I have been using Activate Nutrition’s Lean Muscle Gainer as a post workout protein shake as it has a great ratio of carbohydrates to protein, making it  the perfect choice for optimal recovery.  The insulin spike caused by the presence of carbohydrates is what is needed in order to create the perfect anabolic environment, leading to optimal muscle growth.  It is vital that a post workout protein powder gives both carbohydrate (in this case dextrose) and protein in order to replenish glycogen stores and fill the working muscles with quality protein to aid the muscle-building and repair process.

All in all I found the lean muscle gainer to have a great flavour, it mixed easily and the price would not break the bank.  As usual I found this product to be another amazing addition to the Activate Nutrition’s range.  Another job well done guys!

Review: Activate Nutritions CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)

Friday, June 21st, 2013

CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acid is an unsaturated fatty acid that is commonly found in meat, full fat milk and cheese. It is commonly marketed as a weight loss aid, and is said to work by aiding the release of  fat from the fat cells (this is done by stimulating the hormone lipase) or blocking the fat being stored in the adipose tissue (fat cells).  It is more commonly believed that CLA works as a fat storage blocker by stopping fat cells filling up, therefore reducing levels of adipose tissue within the body.  CLA has also been shown to speed up the bodies metabolism and therefore increase the number of calories burnt throughout a day, this can have a great effect in the management of body fat.

It is recommended that CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is taken in quantities of between 2-5g per day split over 3 doses.

The Activate Nutrition CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) capsules come in a standard bottle size of 90 soft gel capsules.  The capsules are easy to swallow with each one containing 1000mg, this means that each bottle should give you an approximate 30 day supply of this supplement.

As with most Activate Nutrition products the CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is very reasonably priced, and the customer service is second to none.  The supplement is well worth adding to your stack for those who are looking for weight control and/or fat loss.

As usual please do comment below and let me know if you have any thoughts on this product or if you have any questions regarding the use of CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid).
